Qin Feng 秦風

Qin FengBorn in Xinjiang Province in 1961. Currently resides in Chelsea, Massachusetts and Beinjing. Trained in Shandong Art Academy in Jinan.

Qin Feng’s upbringing in Xinjiang Province, where he became accustomed to seeing a multiplicity of written languages—Chinese, Uighur, Arabic, Russian—instilled in the artist a fascination with the written word.

Qin has ventured further into antiquity than any other artist in this exhibition, choosing a monumental bronze vessel as his inspiration. Qin contemplates on the vessel’s inscription—among the earliest traces of the written Chinese language—in a dynamic installation of 15 folding books and 12 hanging scrolls, painted with writings both ancient and of his own invention. Visitors will be invited to walk amongst the standing books.
